Job Description
The Galesburg Sanitary District maintains 160 miles of sanitary sewer and two-thirds of the storm sewer in the City of Galesburg. The maintenance of the sanitary sewer collection system is critical to ensuring the public health and safety of our customers. The operation and maintenance of the sanitary sewer system is a protection of the capital investment the community has made in its wastewater collection system, which extends its effective life cycle and reduces operational costs. The operation and maintenance of the collection system consist of sewer jetting, sewer televising, lift station and storm station maintenance, and repair and construction of infrastructure.
The Galesburg Sanitary District is seeking an Operations Technician which reports directly to the Information Manager. Their primary responsibility is the support of the Information Manager in the collection, compilation and organization of a vast number of existing maps, drawings and other miscellaneous data points, both in-house and field located. Additional responsibilities include gathering field information about The Galesburg Sanitary District's collection system and wastewater treatment plant to assist in building and maintaining the Geographic Information system (G.I.S.), along with District projects and operations. Primary Responsibilities will include:
· Operation of the District's Closed-Circuit TV (CCTV) sewer inspection equipment
· Sanitary and Storm sewer locating through the Joint Utility Location Information and Exchange (J.U.L.I.E.), better known as JULIE1call. Occasional after-hour requests may be required.
· Basic ability to use GIS software including data editing and recording
· Utility locating using high precision cable locator
Requirements
· Minimum: Associates degree in a technical field (i.e. Construction Engineering, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Surveying, G.I.S.) or a similar field is preferred; experience is helpful but not a requirement.
· Ability to comprehend construction plans, blueprints and maps is required.
· Ability to obtain a Class C Illinois motor vehicle license.
· Self-motivated individual with the capability of taking on more responsibility as experience is gained.
Residency within the City of Galesburg is not required, but residency must be in reasonable proximity to allow for an individual to arrive in time for occasional after hour locate requests.
